The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and in Scotland The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, places the responsibility of fire safety firmly onto the shoulders of the Business Employer, Manager or Owner ("Responsible Person") and stipulates that it is a legal requirement for the majority of UK businesses to undertake a fire risk assessment, which will identify any fire hazards, people at risk and actions to be taken.
It is the Responsible Person's duty to ensure the fire risk assessment is carried out by someone who has had sufficient training and has good experience or knowledge of fire safety ("Competent Person").

Asco directly employ Fire Risk Assessors across the whole of the UK, who's professional qualifications include:
- Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE);
- Confederation of Fire Protection Association (Europe) Diploma – CFPA (Europe);
- Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (MIFSM).
The Institution of Fire Engineers, maintain a register of fire risk assessors who have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the IFE that they have a combination of the education, training and knowledge and relevant experience in carrying out fire risk assessments.
Our Fire Risk Assessors are continuously enhancing their skills by attending courses and seminars and communicate regularly with local authorities to be one step ahead of legislation.
Asco were founder members of the FIA (Fire Industry Association) and were instrumental in implementing a Code of Practice throughout the fire industry to safeguard the interests of the Responsible Person as defined in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
The Code of Practice is defined as:
"FIA members, who provide Fire Risk Assessment, subscribe to a code of conduct to safeguard the interests of those with duties and responsibilities under UK fire safety legislation in relation to fire risk assessments carried out on their behalf by FIA members".
